AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF EMPLOYI'~NT; <br />TO PROVIDE ~ COMPENSATION PLAN FOR EMPLOYEES; AND TO REGULATE <br />THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE 1976-77 CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PLAN <br />OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> BE iT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />Section 1. Employees classified. <br /> On and after July 1, 1976, all employees of the City <br />of Portsmouth shall be classified according to the kind and <br />type of work performed by them and as provided in this ordi- <br />nance. <br /> <br />Section 2. Classification and compensation. <br /> <br /> All full time officers and employees of the City, <br />except those mentioned in Section 15 of this ordinance, shall <br /> Classes of <br />be classified and graded in accordance with the" <br />Positions assigned to Pay Grades," portion of this ordinance. <br />The compensation of each employee shall be determined accord- <br />lng to the Pay Schedules and other provisions of this ordinance. <br />Pay Schedule A shall be effective through A~gust 31~ t~76~ <br />Pay Schedule B shall become effective, September 1, 1976. <br /> <br />Section 3. Compensation and Salary Adjustments~ <br /> On and after July 1, 1976, the salary steps for <br /> respective positions as set forth in Section 2 of this ordinance <br /> shall constitute the plan of compensation for all persons <br /> classified under said section: (See Pay Schedules). <br /> <br /> Ia) General Increases. <br /> <br /> From time to time, the City Manager may reco~end the <br />granting of General Increases for all persons classified under~ <br />this plan. <br /> <br /> Such general increases will be applied directly to the <br />"Pay Schedule" such that each grade and step shall reflect the <br />increase. <br /> <br /> When a general increase is granted, there zs no <br />movement on the Pay Schedule; the employee retamns the same <br />grade and step designation. <br /> <br /> <br />
