AN ORDINANCE TO 3~END THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, <br />1973, BY AMENDING ARTICLE VIII OF CHAPTER 2 THEREOF PERTAINING TO <br />FIP~ AND POLICE DIVISIONS AND INSTALLATION OF AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE <br />SECURITY ALARMS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, <br />be amended by adding Sections 2-188 through 2-191 t0 read as fol- <br />lows: <br /> <br />Section 2-188. Automatic telephone security alarms, definition. <br /> <br /> An automatic telephone security alarm is any device that <br />when activated is programmed to automatically dial the police di- <br />vision or fire division via commercial telephone lines. <br /> <br />Section 2-189. Communications Department to be furnished <br /> information. <br /> <br /> Any person, firm or corporation selling, installing <br />and operating an automatic telephone security alarm programmed <br />to automatically dial the police division or fire division, or <br />both of said divisions, shall furnish in advance of the in- <br />stat!ation of such system to the Director of the Communications <br />Department a memorandum in writing detailing the location of <br />any such device so used~ and shall furnish such other infor- <br />mation as may be required by this ordinance or by the Director <br />of the Communications Department pursuant thereto. <br /> <br />Section 2-190. Installation and equipment. <br /> <br /> Each automatic telephone security alarm as defined in <br />Section 2-188 shall: <br /> <br /> (a) Be installed on commercial telephone lines to <br />be deisgnated by the Director of Communications at the expense <br />of the person, firm or corporation selling, installing and <br />operating such service and in such manner as not to place ~ <br />in use or interfere with the regular emergency telephon~ines <br />of the police division or fire division. <br /> <br /> (b) Have the seal of approval of Underwriters <br />Laboratories Incorporated, or Factory Mutual Laboratories. <br /> <br /> (c) Be installed in such a manner that it will be <br />protected from accidental triggering by power failure. <br /> <br /> (d) Have sensing devices and electrical wiring in- <br />stalled in accordance with existing City Codes and regulations, <br /> <br /> <br />
