AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF T~ CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIR- <br />GINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTION 2-13 T~REOF PERTAINING TO <br />LEGAL HOLIDAYS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that Section 2-13 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, 1973, be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-13. Legal holidays generally. <br /> <br /> The following days are designated as legal holidays for <br />all employees of the City, except policemen and firefighters and <br />those engaged in such employment as necessarily requires their <br />daily services, and for all state officers performing duties for <br />the city. The first day of January (New Years Day), the third <br />Monday in February (George Washington Day), the last Monday in <br />May (Memorial Day), the fourth day of July (Independence Day), <br />the first Monday in September (Labor Day), the four Monday in <br />October (Veterans Day), the fourth Thursday in November (Thanks- <br />giving Day) and the twenty-fifth day of December (Christmas Day); <br />provided however, that whenever any of the aforesaid holidays <br />shall fall on a Saturday they shall be observed on the preceding <br />Friday, and whenever they shall fall on a Sunday, they shall be <br />observed on the following Monday. No other holidays shall be ob- <br />served by either state employees partly engaged in city work or <br />by city employees, except when special occasions are authorized <br />by the city manager. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held October 12, 1976. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
