AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF. EMPLOYMENT; TO PRDVIDE <br />A CC~PENSATTON PLAN FOR ~PLOW~E.$; AND TO REGULATE THE AEViIN/STRAT~ON OF <br />THE 1977-78 CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PLAN OF THE CiTY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br /> <br />BE tT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. E~ployees Classified <br /> <br />On and after July 1, 1977 all employees of the City of Portsmouth shall <br />be classified according to the kind and type of work performed by them <br />and as provided in this ordinance. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. Classification and Cc~pensation. <br /> <br />All full time officers and e~ployees of the City, except those r~ntioned <br />in Section 15 of this ordinance, shall be classified and graded in <br />accordance with the "Classes of Positions Assigned to Pay Grades", <br />portion of this ordinance. The compensation of each classified employee <br />shall be determined according to the Pay Schedule portion and other <br />sections of this ordinance. Pay Schedule A shall be effective through <br />August 31, 1977. Pay Schedule B shall become effective, September 1, <br />1977. <br /> <br />SECTION 3. Compensation and Salary Adjustments. <br /> <br />On and after July 1, 1977, the salary steps for the respective positions <br />as set forth in Section 2 of this ordinance shall constitute the plan of <br />cc~oensation for all persons classified under said section: (See Pay <br />Schedules). <br /> <br />(a) General Increases. <br /> <br /> Frc~tia~totime, the City Managermayrec~%~nd the g~anting <br />of general increases for all persons classified under this plan. <br /> <br /> Such general increases willbe applied directlyto the 'q)ay <br />Schedule" such~hat each grade end step shall reflect the increase. <br /> <br /> When a general increase is granted, there is no movement on <br />the Pay Schedule; the e~ployee retains the same grade and step <br />designation. <br /> <br /> <br />
