AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A MAYOR'S SISTER CITIES CO~AMISSION FROM THE <br />CITY OF PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth recognizes the <br />material benefit of promoting cultural ties and harmony with other <br />cities and of encouraging educational programs in order that the citizens <br />of Portsmouth may learn about our sister cities. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Mayor is authorized to appoint a com- <br />mission to be kno%~n as the "Mayor's Sister Cities Commission from the <br />City of Portsmouth". Such commission shall have no fewer than seven (7) <br />nor more than fifteen (15) members to be appointed to serve terms of two <br />(2) years. Such members shall be residents of the City of Portsmouth. <br />Appointment of such members shall be based on recommendations solicited <br />from the various civic groups within the City of Portsmouth as well as <br />from individual citizens of the City. <br /> <br /> The commission so appointed is authorized and instructed to work <br />toward the purpose of promoting cultural ties and harmony with other <br />sister cities. The commission is further authorized to establish and <br />promote educational programs for the citizens of Portsmouth in order <br />that the citizens may more fully participate in such program and achieve <br />the full benefits from such program. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a <br />meeting held October 11, 1977. <br /> <br />Tes te: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
