AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTION 2-13 PERTAINING TO <br />LEGAL HOLIDAYS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the Code of the City of Portsmouthf Virginia, <br />1973, be amended by amending Section 2-13 pertaining to legal <br />holidays. <br /> <br />Section 2-13. Legal holidays generally. <br /> <br /> The following days are designated as legal holidays for <br />all employees of the City, except policemen and firefighters <br />and those engaged in such employment as necessarily requires <br />their daily services, and for all state officers performing <br />duties for the City: The first day of January (New Years <br />Day), the third Monday in February (George Washington Day), <br />the last Monday in May (Memorial Day), the fourth day of <br />July (Independence Day), the first Monday in September <br />(Labor Day), the eleventh day of November (Veterans Day)~ <br />the fourth Thursday in November (Thanksgiving Day) and the <br />twenty-fifth day of December (Christmas Day); provided~ <br />however, that whenever any of the aforesaid holidays shall <br />fall on a Saturday they shall be ovserved on the preceding <br />Friday, and whenever they shall fall on a Sunday~ they shall <br />be observed on the following Monday~ No other holidays <br />shall be observed by either state employees partly engaged <br />in City work or by City employees, except when special <br />occasions are authorized by the City Manager. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held August 22r 1978. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
