AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTION 14-46 THEREOF, PERTAINING <br />TO THE PAYMENT OF BILLS, DELINQUENT CHARGES, DISCONTINUANCE <br />OF SERVICE, NOTICES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 14-46 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended and reordained to <br />read'as follows: <br /> <br />Sec~io~14-46. Payment of bills, delinquent charges, dis- <br /> continuance of service, notices. <br /> <br /> (a) Ail bills rendered under Section 14-39 are due <br />and payable'as provided for water and sewer charges in <br />Section 38-42. <br /> <br /> (b) Ail other bills rendered under the division <br />exclusive of Section 14-39 are due and payable at fha office <br />of the City Treasurer upon presentation and shall be con- <br />sidered delinquent if not paid within t5 days of the date <br />issued. If any bill is not paid within such fifteen (15) <br />day period, an additional c~arge of one percent (1%) uer <br />billing period on the unpaid charges shall be added thereto <br />and collected therewith to cover costs of collection. <br /> <br /> (d) The 'director sh~ll discontinue collecting refuse <br />from a delinquent operator, owner or tenant after giving <br />fifteen (15) days' written notice thereof. A copy of the <br />notice shall be delivered to the City Attorney, the Health <br />Department, the Del~-inquent Tax Collector and the Director <br />of Public U~ilities. The Delinquent Tax Collector shall <br />include the delinquent charges with Othez~ taxes or fees to <br />be collected from the operator, owner or tenant, and the <br />Director of Public Utilities may, in addition, discontinue <br />water and sewer service to the delinquent operator, owner <br />or tenant. <br /> <br /> 2.
