AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 14-5 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />pORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, PERTAINING TO cHARGES FOR ILANDLING <br />REFUSE AT CITY INCINERATOR OR IJtNDFILL. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> 1. That Section 14-5 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, be a/nended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br /> Section 14-5. Charges for handling refuse at City incinerator <br /> or landfill. <br /> (a) Whenever incinerable refuse is brought to the city <br /> incinerator by persons other than residents with refuse from <br /> their personal premises, a fee of eight dollars ($8.00) per <br /> ton or a minimum fee of five dollars ($5.00) per load shall <br /> be charged for the service. <br /> (b) Delivery to a city landfill by persons other than <br /> residents of the city with refuse from their personal abode <br /> shall pay a fee of three dollars ($3.00) per ton or one dollar <br /> and fifty cents ($1.50) per cubic yard or a minimum charge of <br /> one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) per load, whichever is <br /> greater. The fee for depositing rubber tires that have not <br /> been sliced, chopped, or otherwise sufficiently deforn~d to <br /> lose their rebounding characteristics in the opinion of the <br /> director of public works shall be triple the rates specified <br /> herein. <br /> (c) ~enever refuse brought by any person to a city in- <br /> cinerator or landfill for disposal is of such volume or character <br /> as to cause und~le expense to the city, the director shall refuse <br /> to accept the same unless such person shall agree to pay a <br /> service charge based upon the cost of handling and disposing <br /> of such refuse. <br /> 2. This ordinance shall take effect as of July 1, 1980. <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br /> at a meeting held May 13, 1980. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
