They shall be appointed by_ the City Council <br />for terms of office of five (5~ years from C_he date of appointment; <br />orovided t~hat the teems of office of the five (5) members first appointed <br />shall be for one {t), %x~ {2), three {3), four ~4), and five (5) years <br />respectix.~ly, and thereafter each member shall be appointed for a term <br />of five (5) years. Of~ the mambers first appointed, one (1) of the <br />members of t~he Cca~ssion shall be appointed from at least three (3) <br />nonim~es made by h~.~ Portsmouth Bar Association, one (1) shall be <br />appoint~ fr~n at least three (3) nominees made by the Tidewater Section <br />of the Virginia Cb~pe~e-r of the American Institute of Architecture, one <br />(1) shall be ap._~intel from at least three (3) nomJmees made by the <br />PorhsT~ue_h _qistorical Association; one {1) Shall be appointed from at <br />least ~l~_.~ee (3) ~neas made by the Portsmouth PEal Estate Board; and <br />one (1) shall be appointed frcan the City at large. <br /> <br /> Two [2) additional five (5) year appointments are created and effective <br />from J~iuary 1, 1976. One (1) shall be appointed from at least three (3} <br />nominees made by the Cradock _~r~rty Owner's Association, and one (1) <br />shall be appoinbed frei at least three (3) nominees made by the Old <br />Truxtun Co~0nity League. <br /> <br /> A %zac~n~f oc~arLng in the m~dnbersbip of the Cc~mission for any <br />cause shall be filled for the unexpired term by the City Council from <br />nominees made ~ +~.he organization or association which originally nominated <br />the member ca%%slng tile vacancy.
