kN ORDINANCE RI) AM~qD THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSM~, VIRGINIA, <br />1973, BY ADDING TO CHAP±'~ 2 THEREOF, ARTICLE XVIII ESS~BLISHING THE <br />JAIL ADVISORY BOARD. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. %~nat the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be <br />amended by adding to Chapter 2 thereof, Article XVIII, such new Article <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br />ARTICLE XVIII: Jail Advisory Board <br /> <br />Section 2-350. Established. <br /> <br /> There is hereby established an advisory board to be known as the <br />"Jail Advisory Poard of the City of Portsmouth". <br /> <br />Section 2-351. Composition; appointment and term. of ~mbers. <br /> <br /> The board shall consist of seven members who shall be appointed by <br />the City C~dncil. T%e m~mbers of the board shall be a__ppointed for tenms <br />of four (4) years; provided, however, of those first appointed, %hree (3) <br />shall be appointed for two (2) years, two (2) for three [3) years, and <br />two (2) for four (4) years. The members shall bold office during their <br />respective terms and until their successors ere appointed. <br /> <br />Section 2-352. Vacancies. <br /> <br /> Ail vacancies au ~he board shall be filled by the City Council for <br />the une~xpired portion of t~ term. Any member of the board may be removed <br />by the Ci~lz Council at $~y time if it finds that the best interest of ~he <br />beard ~_~Id be se~ by such action. <br /> <br />Section 2-353. Election of officers; sJoption Of rules, regulations. <br /> <br /> R~e boa~ shall ar~raaily ei. ect a chairman and vice ChaPeron frcm among <br />~ts members. The board shall adopt such rules, regulations and by-laws <br />as it shall deem necessary for the proper and efficient conduct of its <br />business. <br /> <br />Section 2-354. .~etings. <br /> <br /> The board shall hold regular meetings at least bimonthly on such days <br />and at such ho-ors as may be fi_xed by the board. _Special meetings may be <br />held at such or,her %lines as may be fixed by the board or upon the call <br />of the chairm~n or on the petition of at least one-half of the ~_mbers. <br /> <br /> <br />
