AN ORDINANCE'TO ~END THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VI~ <br />1973, BY ~ENDING SECTIONS 23-470 (d) AND (f), 23-474, <br />AND 23-476 THEREOF PERTAINING TO CERTAIN MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE <br />FEES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 23-470 (d) and (f) of the Code of the City~ <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended and reordained to <br />read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 23-470. Tax on vehicles designed and used for transportation <br /> of passengers-Schedule. <br /> <br /> An annual license tax for motor vehicles, trailers and semi- <br />trailers, designed and used for the transportation of passengers <br />upon the streets of this City shall be as follows: <br /> <br />(d) fifteen dollars ($15.00) for a trailer or semi-trailer designed <br />for use as living quarters for human beings. <br /> <br />(f) Subject to Section 23-473 fifteen dollars ($15.00) for a taxicab <br />and other vehicles kept for rent or hire operated with a chauffeur <br />for the transportation of passengers, which operates or should <br />operate under permits issued by the State Corporation Com~zssion <br />as required by law. This subsection does not apply to vehicles <br />used as common carriers. <br /> <br /> 2. That Section 23-474 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, 1973, be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 23-474. Tax on vehicles not designed or used for transportation <br /> of passengers. <br /> <br /> Except as hereinafter otherwise provided, the license tax to <br />be oaid by the owners of all motor vehicles not designed and used <br />for-the transportation of passengers shall be determined by the' <br />gross weight of the vehicle or combination of vehicles of whish it <br />ms a par~, when loaded to the maximum capacity for which it is <br />registered and licensed, according to the schedule of fees herein <br />set forth. For each one thousand (1,000) pounds of gross weight, <br />or major fraction thereof, for which any such vehicle ms registered <br />and licensed there shall be paid to the Commissioner of the Revenue <br />of the City of Portsmouth, the tax indicated in the following schedule <br />immediately opposite the weight group and under the classification <br />established by the provisions of Section 46.t-99[b) of the Code of <br />Virginia mnto which such vehicle, or any combination of vehicles <br />of which it is a part, falls when loaded to the maximum capacity <br />for which it is registered and licensed; provided, that mn no case <br />shall the fee be less than fifteen dollars ($15.00) for vehicles <br /> <br /> <br />
