AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 38-77~a) AND (b} AND 38-77.1 OF THE CODE OF ThE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, PERTAINING TO C~3~RGES FOR SEWAGE DISPOSAL AND TREATMENT AND E~ERGENCY SUR-CPiARGE THERETO. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the'City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Sections 38-77(a) and (b) and 38-77.1 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended and reordained to read as follows: Section 38-77. Charges for service established. (a) Charges for the disposal of sewage discharged into the City's sewage system will be based upon the water consumed on the premises as measured by meters used for this purpose at the rate of forty-two cents ($0.42) per one thousand (1000) gallons or thirty-one and one-haif cents ($0.3150) per 100 cubic feet. The minimum charge for such service shall be one dollar and twenty-five cents ($1.25~ per month. (b) Charges for treatment of sewage by the City will be based upon the water Consumed on the premises as measured by meters used for this purpose, and shall be at the rate of eighty-five and one-third cents [$0.8533) per one thousand (1000) gallons or sixty-four cents ($0.64~ per 100 cubic feet for customers within the City of Portsmouth. The minimum monthly charge shall be one dollar and seventy-five cents ($1.75). For customers outside the City of Portsmouth, the rate shall be eighty-five and one-third cents ($0.8533~ per one thousand ilO00) gallons or sixty-four cent~ ~$0.64) per 1OO cubic feet. Tke mini~aum monthly charge shall be one dollar and seventy-five cents ~$1.75). Cc) The rates prescribed herein will be reflected in bills rendered after July 1, 1981. Section 38-77.1. Emergency surcharge. In addition to the 'charges for the disposal of sewage discharged into the 'City's sewage system provided for in this chaper, it is.hereby imposed an emergency drought surcharge of six cents ($O.O~) per one thousand (1000) gallons or four and one-half cents ~$0.045} per iOO cubic feet. The surcharge prescribed herein will be reflected in bills rendered after July 1, 1981 and will remain in effect until repealed by the Council of the ~C±ty of Portsmouth, Virginia.
