AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTION 38-77(a) AND (b) PERTAIN- <br />ING TO CHARGES FOR SEWAGE DISPOSAL AND TREATMJENT, AND BY <br />REPEALING SECTION 38-77.1 PERTAINING TO EMERGENCY S~RCHARGE <br />THEREON. -~ <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 38-77(a) and (b) of the Code of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended and reordained <br />to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sect.ion 38-77. Charges for Service Established. <br /> <br /> Any person contracting with the City for sewage disposal <br />service, or the owner, leasee or tenant, or any or all of them, <br />who uses or occupies any real estate which directly or indirectly <br />is or has been connected with the sewage system of the City, <br />or from or on which originates or has originated-sewage or <br />industrial wastes or other wastes which directly or indirectly <br />enter or will enter the sewage system shall pay to the City <br />for the use and services of such system the foes, rents and <br />charges according to the following schedule of rates: <br /> <br /> (a) Chargos for the disposal of sewage discharged into <br />the City's sewage system will be based upon the water consumed <br />on the premises as measurod by meters used for this purpose <br />at the rate of forty eight cents ($0.48) per one thousand (i,000) <br />gallons, orr thirty six cents ($0.36) per one hundred <br />(100) cubic feet. The minimum charge for such service shall <br />be one dollar and twenty-five cents [$1.25) per month. The rate <br />prescribed ~erein will be reflected in bills rendered after <br />July 1, 198~, <br /> <br /> (b) Charges for treatment of sewage by the City will be <br />based upon the water consumed on the premises as measured by <br />meters used for this purpose, and shall be at the rate of <br />one dollar and nine cents ($1.09) per one thousand (i,000) <br />gallons, or, eighty two cents ($0.82) per one hundred [100) <br />cubic feet for consumers within the City of Portsmouth. The <br />minimum monthly charge shall be one dollar and seventy-five <br />cents ($1.75). For customers outside the City of Portsmouth, <br />the rate shall be one dollar and nine cents ($1.O9) per one <br />thousand (1,O00} gallons or eighty two cents ($0.82) per one <br />hundred (1OO) cubic feet. The minimum monthly charge shall <br />be one dollar and seventy-five cents ($1.75). The rate <br />prescribed herein will be reflected in bills rendered after <br />July i, 1982. <br /> <br /> <br />
