Ref: File No. B-1320 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 23-470, 23-473, AND 23-474 PERTAINING TO MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE TAXES. BE iT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, ~hat certain sections of Article XI, Chapter 23, be amended, to read as follows: 1. That Section 23-470 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended to read as follows: Section 23-470. Tax on vehicles designed and used for transportation of passengers-schedule. The annual license tax for motor vehicles, trailer.s and semi-trailers, designed and used for the transportation of passengers upon the streets of the City shall be as follows: (a) Twenty dollars ($20.00) for each private passenger car or motor home if the passenger car or motor home weighs four thousand (4,000)pounds or less and twenty five dollars ($25.00) for each passenger car or motor home which weighs in excess of four thousand (4,000) pounds provided such passenger car or motor home is not used for the transportation of passengers for compensation and is not kept or used for rent or for hire, or is not operated under a lease without a chauffeur. (b) Thirty cents (.30) per one hundred (!00) pounds of weight or major fraction thereof for a private motor vehicle other than a motorcycle with a normal seating capacity of more than tsn adult persons including the driver if such private motor vehicle is not used for the transportation of passengers for compensation and is not kept or used for rent or for hire or is not operated under a lease without a chauffeur. In no case shall the fee be less than twenty dollars ($20.00) if the vehicle weighs four thousand (4,000) pounds or less or twenty five dollars ($25.0~) if the vehicle weighs in excess of four thousand (4,000) pounds. (c) Thirty cents (.30) per one hundred (100) pounds of weight or major fraction thereof for a school bus, public or private; provided that in no case shall the fee be less than twenty dollars ($20.00) if the vehicle weighs four thousand (4,000) pounds or less or twenty five dollars ($25.00) if the vehicle weighs in excess of four %housand (4,000) pounds.
