Ref: File No. <br /> <br />B-1320 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 23-470, 23-473, AND <br />23-474 PERTAINING TO MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE TAXES. <br /> <br /> BE iT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, ~hat certain sections of Article XI, Chapter 23, <br />be amended, to read as follows: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 23-470 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 23-470. <br /> <br />Tax on vehicles designed and used for <br />transportation of passengers-schedule. <br /> <br /> The annual license tax for motor vehicles, trailer.s <br />and semi-trailers, designed and used for the transportation <br />of passengers upon the streets of the City shall be as follows: <br /> <br /> (a) Twenty dollars ($20.00) for each private passenger <br />car or motor home if the passenger car or motor home weighs <br />four thousand (4,000)pounds or less and twenty five dollars <br />($25.00) for each passenger car or motor home which weighs <br />in excess of four thousand (4,000) pounds provided such <br />passenger car or motor home is not used for the transportation <br />of passengers for compensation and is not kept or used for <br />rent or for hire, or is not operated under a lease without <br />a chauffeur. <br /> <br /> (b) Thirty cents (.30) per one hundred (!00) pounds of <br />weight or major fraction thereof for a private motor vehicle <br />other than a motorcycle with a normal seating capacity of <br />more than tsn adult persons including the driver if such <br />private motor vehicle is not used for the transportation <br />of passengers for compensation and is not kept or used for <br />rent or for hire or is not operated under a lease without <br />a chauffeur. In no case shall the fee be less than twenty <br />dollars ($20.00) if the vehicle weighs four thousand (4,000) <br />pounds or less or twenty five dollars ($25.0~) if the vehicle <br />weighs in excess of four thousand (4,000) pounds. <br /> <br /> (c) Thirty cents (.30) per one hundred (100) pounds of <br />weight or major fraction thereof for a school bus, public or <br />private; provided that in no case shall the fee be less than <br />twenty dollars ($20.00) if the vehicle weighs four thousand <br />(4,000) pounds or less or twenty five dollars ($25.00) if the <br />vehicle weighs in excess of four %housand (4,000) pounds. <br /> <br /> <br />
