AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ARTICLE III OF CHAPTER 3 OF THE CODE <br />OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, PERTAINING TO <br />CO~WLERCIAL RECREATION CENTERS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Article III of Chapter 3 of the Code of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended-to read as ~ <br />follows: - .- <br /> <br />ARTICLE III. Commercial Recreation Centers <br /> <br />Section 3-31. <br /> <br />"Commercial Recreation Center" defined; <br />exceptions to Article, definitions. <br /> <br /> (al "Commercial. Recreation Center" within the meaning <br />and application of this Article is defined as any establishment <br />where a group of more than two (2) amusement games or other <br />amusement machines or any like game or'device is displayed <br />for public patronage~ where the insertion of a coin, slug or <br />token or the payment of a fee is required. There is excepted <br />from the regulations contained in this Article those establishments <br />duly licensed and regulated by the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage <br />Control Board. <br /> <br /> (b) "~musement Game Machines" for the purposes of this <br />Article is defined as a coin operated machine or device which, <br />whether mechanical, electrical or electronic, shall be ready <br />for play by the insertion of a coin, slug or token and may <br />be operated by the public for use as a game, entertainment <br />or amusement. It shall include, but not be limited to, <br />devices such as pinball machines, foosball tables, minature <br />bowling alleys, minature shuffle boards, target shoots, <br />picture taking machines and other amusement devices which <br />reproduce symbolic figures and lines intended to be represent- <br />ative of real games or activities. <br /> <br />Section 3-32. Permit required. <br /> <br /> Any person operating a commercial recreation center <br />shall be required to obtain a permit from the City Manager <br />or his authorized representative. Any person operating such <br />establishment on the effective date of this Article shall <br />have a period of sixty (60) days from the date hereof to <br />comply with this requirement. <br /> <br /> <br />
