AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY ADDING TO CHAPTER 2 THEREOF, ARTICLE XIX <br />ESTABLISHING THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDA/NED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />1973, be amended by adding to Chapter 2 thereof, Article XIX, <br />such new Article to read as follows: <br /> <br />ARTICLE XIX: Department of Economic Development <br /> <br />Section 2-360. .Established. <br /> <br /> There is hereby established a department of the City <br />Goverrnnent kno%~n and designated as the Department of Economic <br />Development. <br /> <br />Section 2-361. Composition. <br /> <br /> The Department of Economic Development shall consist of <br />the Director of Economic Development and such other employees <br />as may be provided by ordinance or by order of the City Manager <br />consistent there%~'ith. <br /> <br />Section 2-362. Appointment. <br /> <br /> The Director of Economic Development shall be appointed <br />by the City Manager and shall be the head of the Department <br />of Economic Development. <br /> <br />Section 2-363. Powers and duties. <br /> <br /> Subject to the control and supervision of the City Manager <br />and subject to the provisions of this code and other ordinances <br />of the City, the Director of Economic Development shall be <br />charged with the following duties and responsibilities: <br /> <br /> (a) General management and control of the Department <br />of EcQnomic Development; <br /> <br /> (b) Development of an overall economic development <br />strategy for the City; <br /> <br /> (c) Development and implementation of marketing <br />programs for commercial/industrial sites, including active <br />solicitation of national and international business concerns; <br /> <br /> <br />
