AN ORDINANCE TO REORGANIZE THE CRANEY ISLAND STUDY COMMISSION; <br />ESTABLISHING TERMS FOR MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION, PROVIDING <br />FOR COMPOSITION OF MEMBERSHIP AND PRESCRIBING THE DUTIES OF <br />SAID COmmISSION. <br /> <br /> W~REAS, by ordinance adopted on Febraury 25, 1969, the <br /> Craney Island Study Commission was created to be composed of <br /> seven (7) members; and <br /> <br /> W~AS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth desires <br /> to reorganize the Craney Island Study Commission to provide <br /> for tel~as of appointments, composition of the membership of <br /> said Co~ission' and prescribe 'the dutiesof said Com~ission. <br /> <br /> NOWt THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the'Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Ordinance 1969-10 be repealed. <br /> <br /> 2. That there is7 hereby created a Commission to be <br />known as thecraney Island Study Commission w~ich shall <br />consist of sev~ (7) members. The members of the Commission <br />shall be residents 0f~he City~ ThE members of the Co~ssion <br />shall be appointed'by the'City Council, of those so appointed, <br />one (1) member'shal!~be a membe~ of the Planning Commission of <br />the City of Portsmouth but in no case shall a member of the <br />Planning Commission .be so elected.to continue, as a member of <br />this Commission after the expiration of his term as a member <br />of the Planning Commission. One member shall be a member of <br />the Industrial Development Authority of the City of Portsmouth <br />~but in no cas~-'shal! a member of the Industrial Development <br /> Authority of the~'City of Portsmouth be so elected to continue <br /> as a member of thfs Commission after the e~piration of his <br /> term as a me,hem of the Industrial Development Authority of <br /> the City o~ Portsmouth. · One (1) member shalI be an employee <br /> of the Cit~ of~Portsmouth~.~ Four (4) members~shaI1 be appoihted <br /> from the ( <br /> <br /> 3. The f the Commission members3shall <br /> begin .July 1, 1982 and shall be for a perio~ of four (4) <br /> years, except that the members of the Commission shall be <br /> appointed for different terms, that is, two (2) shall be appointed <br /> for a term of one (1) year from July 1, 1982~ two (2) for a term <br /> of two (2) years from July 1, 1982, two (2) for a term of three <br /> {3) years from July 1, 1982, and one (1) for a term of four (4) <br /> years from July 1, 1982. All vacancies shall be filled by <br /> appointment of the City Council for the remainder of the un- <br /> expired te~--m. All members of the Commission shall serve as such <br /> without compensation. <br /> <br /> 4. The members of the Craney Island Study Commission <br />shall, i~ediately after their appointment, meet and organize. <br />They shall elect a chairman, a vice-chairman and such other <br /> <br /> <br />
