AN ORDINANCE 20 AMEND SECTION 23-213 OF THE PORTSMOUTH CITY <br />CODE PERTAINING TO STOPPING IN EMERGENCY AP~AS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 23-213 of the Code of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended, to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 23-213. Stopplng in Emergency Are&s. <br /> <br /> (a) No vehicle shall be stopped at or in %he vicinity <br />of a fire, vehicle or airplane accident, or other area of <br />emergency in such a manner as to create a traffic hazard <br />or interfere with the necessary procedures of police, firemen, <br />rescue workers or others whose duty it is to deal with such <br />emergencies. Any vehicle found unattended in the Vicinity '. <br />of such fire. a~cident~ or area of emergency may be removed <br />by order of a p61i~e officer at the risk' and expense, no~ <br />to exceed forty ($40.00) dollars, of the owner if such vehicle <br />creates a traffic hazard or interferes with the necessary <br />procedures of police, firemen, rescue workers or others whose <br />assigned duty it is to deal with such emergencies. <br /> <br /> (b) Vehicles being used by accredited information <br />services, such as press, radio and television, when being <br />used for the gathering of news, shall be exempt from the <br />provisions of subsection (a) of this section, except when <br />actually obstructing the police, firemen and rescue workers <br />dealing with such emergencies. <br /> <br />1982. <br /> <br />This Ordinance shall take effect on February 9, <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginma, <br />at a meeting held February 9, 1982. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
