1983-58 83-254 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, BY ADDING THERETO ARTICLE XX ESTABLISHING THE DEPARTmeNT OF GENERAL SERVICES AND BY AFIENDING SECTION 2-210 THEREOF PERTAINING TO POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1973, such 1. That the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, be amended by adding to Chapter 2 thereof, Article XX, new Article to read as follows: ARTICLE XX: Department of General Services Section 2-370. Established. There is hereby established a department of the City government known and designated as the Department of General Services. Section 2-371. Composition. The Department of General Services shall consist of the Director of General Services and such other officers and employees organized into such bureaus, divisions and other units as may be provided by ordinance or by order of the City Manager consistent therewith. Section 2-372. Appointment. The Director of General Services shall be appointed by the City Manager and shall be head of the Department of General Services. Section 2-373. Po%~ers and Duties. Subject to the supervision and control of the City Manager, and subject to the provisions of this Code and other ordinances of the City, the Director of General Services shall be charged with the following duties and responsibilities: (a) General management and control of the several bureaus, divisions and other units of the Department of General Services; (b) The acquisition, operation, maintenance and sale of all motor vehicles of the City, and supervision of the operation of the Vehicle Service Center.
