WHEREAS, the health and welfare of the youth of the City of Portsmouth <br />have been enhanced greatly by virtue of the benefits derived from certain <br />civic and recreational facilities, including the Beaztey Community Center, <br />the City Dental Clinic, the Foundation Boys Club and the Oliver Bynun <br />Recreation Center, which have been provided and operated in whole or in <br />part from endowments created by Fred W. Beazley, Sr., and members of his <br />immediate family; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in fulfillment of his ambition to provide educationaI advan- <br />tages for young men without regard to thsir financial circumstances, the <br />said Fred W. Beazley, Sr. has established in this City an institution <br />named Frederick College in honor of his father, where accredited education <br />on the high school and junior college levels is offered, with appropriate <br />emphasis upon religious and military training and close personal contact <br />between student and faculty. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that the appreciation of the citizens of this City for the estab- <br />lishment of Frederick College and the aforesaid civic and recreational <br />facilities be hereby expressed and conveyed to the said Fred W. Beazley, Sr., <br />whose philanthropy and regard for the City of his birth have truly made this <br />City a better place in which to live. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon <br />the minutes of the City Council, and a copy be presented to the said Fred W. <br />Beazley, Sr., as a token of the esteem in which he is held by the people of <br />this City. <br /> <br />Adopted at a meeting of City Council held on May 12, 1959. <br /> <br /> <br />
