A RESOLUTION URGING THE U. S. GOVERNMENT AND THE GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION TO GIVE FAVORABLE CONSIDERATION TO THE TRANSFER OF THE PROPERTY FORMERLY KNOWN AS U. S. MARINE CORPS SUPPLY FORWARDING ANNEX TO A NON-PROFIT CORPORATION, AGENCY OR AUTHORITY IN THE TIDE- WATER AREA WITH A VIEW TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND USE THEREOF FOR IN- DUSTRIAL PURPOSES. WHEREAS, the United States Government owns the property containing about 972 acres, with certain buildings and improvements thereon, formerly known as U. S. Marlne Corps Supply Forwarding Annex, located 12.5 miles northwest of Portsmouth, Virginia, at the junction of the James and Nansemond Rivers, in Nansemond County, Virginia; and WHEREAS, a determination has been made that this property is no longer required for use by the Government and is available for disposition in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Property and Administrative Service Act of 1949, as amended; and WHEREAS, that property is highly suitable for industrial development and use, by reason of the location thereof said the improvements thereon; and WHEREAS, in order to promote the welfare and economy of the Tidewater area, there is an urgent need for the acquisition of that property by an agency which will make it available for industrial development and use, on reasonable terms; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmou-th, Vir- ginia, does hereby urge the United States Government and the General Services Ad- ministration to give favorable consideration to the transfer of said property to a non-profit corporation, agency or authority in the Tidewater area, with a view to the development and use thereof for industrial purposes; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to Virginia's Senators and the Congressmen representing the Tidewater area, with the request that they take all actions they properly can in furtherance of the above stated objec- tives.
