WHEREAS, it is desirable that all citizens take am active part <br />in the political life of their locality; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States presently has under <br />consideration a hill for the modification of the Hatch Act which would <br />permit federal and state employees now under the H~tch Act to take <br />active parts in campaigns for local office° <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE.IT RESOLVED hy the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that it is the sense of this Council that federal <br />and state employees should not be prohibited from taking active parts <br />in partisan political campaigns for local office. <br /> <br /> BE IT ~URTHER RES0~VED that the City Clerk is directed to send a <br />copy of this resolution To all members of the Congress of the United <br />States representing the people of this City, and To the governing bodies <br />of the Cities of Norfolk, South Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, New- <br />port News and Hampton, and the Counties of Norfolk, Princess Anne and <br />Nansemond. <br /> <br /> Adopted hy the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, on <br />~rch 52, 1960o <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
