WHEREAS the United States Navy Department presently proposes to <br />donate to the City of Portsmouth its property known as Alabama Avenue <br />extending between its housing project known as New Gosport Defense Housing <br />and the westerly right of way line of George Washington Highway, consisting <br />of 1,880 acres, its 8 inch cast iron force sewer main extending from said <br />housing project along Alabama Avenue and George Washington Highway to a <br />point where it connects with the system of the Hampton Roads Sanitation <br />District Commission, together with its sewer pumping station and related <br />facilities, water mains, and storm drains; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the United States Navy Department has requested the formal <br />expression from the City as to its willingness to accept the aforesaid faci- <br />lities subject to certain reservations in the Federal Govsrnment and con- <br />ditions as hereinafter set forth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Manager be and he <br />is hereby authorized to:accept the aforesaid donation at such time as it <br />shall be tendered to him by the United States of America, upon the follow- <br />ing conditions: <br /> <br /> a) The United States of America shall reserve unto <br /> itself and its assigns the necessary easements <br /> for existing electrical power lines and gas trans- <br /> mission lines. <br /> <br /> b) The City of Portsmouth agrees upon acceptance of <br /> the donation to operate and maintain thereafter, the <br /> aforesaid section of Alabama Avenue and the water <br /> mains, storm drains, sewer mains, and.sewer pumping <br /> stations located therein so that the New Gosport <br /> Defense Housing Project will continue to receive <br /> uninterrupted street access, sewer, water and other <br /> utility services over and through said Alabama Avenue. <br /> <br /> c) Simultaneously upon acceptance of the donation, the <br /> City at its expense will relocate upon government pro- <br /> perty at the housing project boundary the water meter <br /> owned by the United States of America and presently <br /> situate within that portion of Alabama Avenue to be <br /> donated to the City. <br /> <br /> Adopted at a meeting of City Council on February 9, 1960. <br /> <br /> <br />
