WTJEREAS, the resignation of Mary B. Crowder from the School Board <br />of the City of Portsmouth has been accepted with regret by the Council <br />of the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHERFAS, Nary Bo Crowder was appointed to the School Board in 1938 <br />and has served as Vice Chairman of the School Board since 1954, during <br />which time ~he school system has grown from an enrollment of less than <br />eight thousand to more than twenty-three thousand pupils, requiring con- <br />struction of twenty new school buildings and additions ~o existing build- <br />ings at a cost of more than thirteen million dollars; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, throughout this period of ~rowth Mary Bo Crowder served <br />with distinction as Chairman of the Salary Committee and other ~mportant <br />committees of the School Board. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Ports- <br />mouth, Virginia, that the appreciation of the citizens of this City for <br />the long and valuable service rendered by Mary B. Crowder to the school <br />system of this City be expressed and conveyed to the said Mary B. Crowder. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of these resolutions be spread <br />upon the minutes of the City Council, and a copy be presented to the <br />said Mary B. Crowder as a token of the esteem in which she is held by <br />the people of this City. <br /> <br /> Adopted at m meeting of City Council held on June 28, 1960. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
