WHEREAS, the Natio~aI G~ard Armory now situate in the City of Portsmouth <br />is obsolete and the facilities inadequate to meet the needs of the City and <br />National Guard Units assigned thereto; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the consensus of ~he Council of the City of PortSmouth <br />that a new Armory is necessary to meet the needs of the citizens of Portsmouth <br />and our National Gum~vd ~nits, and to that end a declaration of intent should <br />be adopted setting forth o~r willingness to cooperate in effectuating the con- <br />struction of a new Am'mory, <br /> <br /> ~OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED thai_the Cotmcil of the City of Portsmouth <br />does hereby declare its intent to cooperaSe in the construction of a new Armory <br />for the City of Portsmouth, should funds Be made available in the Budget of the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia for the 1962-~A Biennium, and to that end would: <br /> <br />Contribute $25~D00.00' toward-the cost of construction. <br /> <br />Maintain the Armory upon completion, furnishing utilities, janitor <br /> <br />S. F~rnish a s~itable and acceptable site of approximately ten (10) <br />acres and deed same to the Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br />4. ,k~r~Furnish ~h~l~= pta~s, maps,, etc.~ of the area designated as the <br />armory~site in cooperation with the Architect, who will Be designated by <br />the Department of Military Affairs of the Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br />5. Will pay the cost of providing such utility lines as are needed <br />in excess of ~00 linear feet from the building site, and also pay 25% of <br />the cost of the first 200 linear feet_of'such utility lines. <br /> <br /> Will p~r~ieipate inthe cost of'construction of access reads, <br />sidewalks, flagpole, shelving, cabinets a~d site preparation. <br /> <br />?. Enter into an agreement with the Commonwealth of Virginia as to <br />occupancy of the armory, furnishing necessary insurance to save harmless <br />the Cormmonwealth of Virginia, ets. <br /> <br /> .~D, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be forwarded <br />to the Governor of Virginia, the Department of Military Affairs of ~he Commonwealth <br />of Virginia, the Director of the Budget for the cemmonwea~th of Virginia, and the <br />Governo='s ~ommission on State Capital O~tlay and Means of Finance. <br /> <br /> Adopted at a meeting of the Council of the City of Portsmouth held June <br />1961~ <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
