WHEREAS, an old and respected Portsmouth military ~mi~, the Grimes <br />Battery, officially known as ~a~tery C, 3rd Automatic WeapOns Battalion~ Illth <br />Artillery, Vi~inia Army National ~ard, has achieved natiollal prominence amd <br />reeog~ition £or ~ifle marksmanship when on June 24, 1962, in rifle practice <br />at the Virginia State Military Reservation~ ever~ man in ~he Grimes Battery <br />attained a perfect score; and <br /> WHEREAS in recognitiOn of this perfect score, the said u~it has <br />been awarded the National Guard Association Trophy, a nationwide honor, the <br />Pershing Trophy for the Second U~ited States Army area, and the Virginia <br />National G~lard Trophy; <br /> WHEREAS, the winning of these trophies by the Grimes Battex~ has <br /> brought great honor and prominence throughout the entire nation to the City <br /> of Portsmouth, Virginia° <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE iT RESOL%~ED by the Council of the City of <br /> portsmouth that the deepest gratitude and warmest thanks of the citizens of <br /> this City be hereby expressed and conveyed to the officers and men of the <br /> Grimes Battery, for a job well done. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that ~ cgPY of these resolutiOns be spread <br /> upo~ the minutes o~ the City Council~ and a copy be presented ~o the officers <br /> smd men of the ~aid Grimes Battery as m token of the esteem in which they <br /> are held ~y the people of this City. <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of lmortsmonth, Vir~inis, at <br /> a meeting held on the 9th day of October, 19620 <br /> <br />City Clerk: <br /> <br /> <br />
