~EREAS,' the Norfolk Naval Shipyard is the oldest naval <br />shipyard in the cotu~.try and will celebrate its ~o Hundredth <br />Anniversa~j on Nov-~mber 1, 1967; and <br /> <br /> ~ERE~S, the said shipyard has played a prominent role <br /> <br />in every period of o~r nation's b_istory; and ~ <br /> <br /> -wi~_~S, the said shipyard is the laz~gest single employer <br />in the City of Portamouth and the second ]~rgest in the stabe of <br /> <br /> NO~f, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL~, by the council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Postmaster General of the United · <br />States is hereby requested and urged to use t~e authority vested <br />in him to issue an appropriate stamp ccfamemorating the Two Hundredth <br />Anniversary of the Norfolk Naval S,hipyard in Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this ~esolution <br /> <br /> be fozw~arded to the Postmaster General of the United States and <br /> the members of Congress frmu Virgir~ia. <br /> <br /> AdOpted by the council of the City of Portsmouth, Virgir~a, <br /> at a meeting held September 27, 1966. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br />city Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
