A RESOIIJTION ~O ~RO~!DE FOR ~ ACQUISITION OF CF~RTAI~W PROPERTY BY <br />THE CiTY OF PORTSMOOiUH UNIDER ~IN~NT D~IN PROCEEDINGS PURSU~f <br />TO CHAP±~m2t 229 OF R~i~ ACTS OF ASSF2~LY OF 1966, SAID PROPF~RTY BEING <br />NECESSARY TO PROVIDE A P~T OF ~ SI%~E FOR %~HE CiVIC CFJqTLR. <br /> <br /> ~,K{L'RF3~, the City of Portsmouth is constructing a Civic <br />Center consisting of several buildings in which will be located <br />various goverr~mental offices: agencies and departments smd the <br />various courts of the City; and <br /> <br /> ~, the City of Portsmouth has found it to be necessary <br />to'acquire the interest hereinafter specified in and to the herein- <br />after described parcel of land situate in the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: for the p-oPpose of constructing the aforesaid buildings <br />and providing the yard spaces for use there,%th; and <br /> <br /> l,?m!P~, the City of Portsmouth has not been able to purchase <br />the property described herein~ necessary to the project~ because the <br />o~mers thereof and the City have not been able to a~ree upon the price <br />to be paid therefor; and <br /> <br /> W~r~REAS, advancement of the work and occupancy of said build- <br />ings ~11 be delayed unreasonably if t~he said proper~y is not Fade <br />available as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> NOW, '1~ .~RE!ORE, BE IT RESOL\q~} by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth~ Virginia: <br /> <br /> Section 1. The City Attorney is directed to institute <br /> nent ao~m~nproceedmngs, employmng specmal co~unsel for tnao o~r- <br />pose mf he deems mt advmsable: ag&~nst the property neremna~ter de- <br />scribed for the purpose of acquirihg fee sime_te title therein, in <br />accord~nce~.~th ~nd pursuant to Section 23(F) of the Charter of the <br />City of Portsmouth (Chapter 229 of the Acts of Assemb~ of 1966), ~nd <br />to deposit to the credit of the oourt as provided by law the s~n. here- <br />inafter specified to compensate the o~,mers of the said property. <br /> <br /> Section 2. ~ne property to be acquired is described as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Ail that certain lot~ piece or ps, col of l~ud~ with the <br />improvements thereon, situate, lyi~E and beir~% in the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, bounded and described =~s <br />follows~ ~o-v~t: '8eginningat the Southeastern inter- <br />section of Crawford and Colombia Streets~ thence running <br />south along the east side of Crawford Street 24 feet, <br />more or less, ~o the center line of the partition wall <br />between the building hereloy conveyed and the building <br />adjoirdng the sam_e on the south~ thence east along the <br /> <br /> <br />
