(b) The petition shall be substantially in the follow- <br />ing form: <br /> <br />the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> We~ the undersigned, qualifie~ electors of this city, <br />respectfully petitio~ your honorable body to ordain the following <br />ordinance: <br /> <br />S~gnature of Elector <br /> <br />Street Address Date Signed <br /> <br /> (c) The execution of the petit~o~ by an elector shall <br />be acknowledged by him, or it may be proved by the oath of a <br />~itness who shall swear that he knows the elector and that the <br />petition was signed by the elector i~ the presence of the wit- <br />ness. The petition may be in the form of separate sheets, each <br />sheet containing at the top thereof the petition as set forth <br />above, and when bound together mud offered for filing, shall be <br />deemed to constitute one petition. : <br /> <br />§ 10.g2. Petition for Referendum. <br /> <br /> (a) At any time within thirty days following the <br />adoption of an ordinance, except an emergency ordinance, a pe- <br />tition signed by at least thirty per centum of the electors eli- <br />gible to vote in the last preceding general election protesting <br />against the enactment of such ordinance and requesting its <br />repeal, may be pres.ented to-the council.
