RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF AN APPLICATION FOR A GR~NT FROM THE LAW ENFORC~W~NT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION UNDER THE OrH~IBUS ~ CONTROL AND SAFE STRa~±~ ACT ~ WHEREAS, the Omnibus Crime Control a~d Safe Streets Act provides for the making of grants by the Departmaut of Justice to states and local public bodies to assist them in the improvement of their law enforcement programs; and WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth desires to improve its local law enforcement program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That application 'be made to the Department of Justice for a grant in ~n ~mount athorized by Title I of the Cmnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act for improvement of the local law en- ~forc~nent program, which amount is-presently estimated to be Forty- /six Thousand Five Hur~lred ($46,500)Dollars ~aud that the City of PortSmOuth will provide the balance of the cost from other ikmds available to it of the estimated total project cost of Seventy-seven Thousand Five Hundred ($77,500) Dollars. 2. That the City ~ager is-hereby aut~horized and directed to execute s_nd file such applicati6~ with the D~p~rtment of Justice~ to provide such additional ir~rormation, to furnish such doc~.ents as may be rec~aired by said department, to execute such contracts as are required by said department, and to act as the authorized correspon-. dent.of the City of Portsmouth. 3. That the United States of ~aerica and the Attorney Cen- eraI of the Unit~ States be, and they hereby are, assured of full conap!lance by th~ City of Portsmouth with reg~!ations of the Depart- men~ of Justice effectuating Title VI of the Cm~l' Rights Act of 1964.
