RESOLUTION COMMENDING MARSHALL W. BUTT <br />AS A CITIZEN AND HISTORIAN <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Marshall W. Butt through the years has <br />contributed much to the betterment of the City of Portsmouth <br />as a citizen, and through his interest in the early history <br />of the City has made many people more knowledgeable of its <br />colorful past and outstanding contributions to the State <br />and the Nation; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 1952 Marshall W. Butt was the author <br />of "The Portsmouth Story, 1752-1952", written initially for <br />the Portsmouth Bicentennial in 1952, and subsequent updated <br />versions published in book form, recalling interesting as <br />well as historical events of the past; and <br /> WHEREAS, Mr. Butt also is one of the founders of <br /> the Portsmouth Historical Association, organized April 10, <br /> 1956, and served from that time to June 1961 as president <br /> of the organization, and has long been recognized as an au- <br /> thentic and accurate source of early Portsmouth history; and <br /> WHEREAS, his efforts and interest in helping bring <br /> to Portsmouth for public enjoyment the valuable collection <br /> of Naval artifacts formerly housed in the Naval Shipyard <br /> Museum, and his technical knowledge helped develop an <br /> portant museum in the City of Portsmouth. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of <br /> the City of Portsmouth that the important contributions of <br /> Marshall W. Butt for the betterment of this City be public- <br /> ly acknowledged with appreciation and gratitude; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolu- <br /> tion be presented to Mr. Marshall W.
