41 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR UNSELFISH <br />BY THE COMMANDING OFFICER AND MEN OF THE <br />ALLY DEPRESSED AREAS OF THE CITY. <br /> <br />SERVICES AND AID PROVIDED <br />USS FORRESTAL TO ECONOMIC- <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, and its Naval <br />Shipyard have enjoyed over many years economic, social, and human- <br />itarian ties, solidifying the unity of our citizens and the men of <br />the U. S. Navy, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it has been Portsmouth's good fortune on numerous <br />occassions to receive gratuitous assistance from individual officers <br />of our Navy, having duty ashore and afloat, particularly services of <br />an economic or humanitarian character, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Captain Robert F. Schoultz, commanding officer of <br />the Carrier USS Forrestal and the men under his command have demon- <br />strated particularly noteworthy and unusual interest in, and unself- <br />ish dedication to, the economically depressed areas of our city, <br />assisting them in various ways, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this assistance has served physical and social <br />needs of many of these citizens, particularly hundreds of children, <br />through renovation of a recreation center, beach outings, harbor <br />boat tours, and block parties, where food was furnished, <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that appreciation be conveyed through this <br />resolution to our benefactor, Capt. Robert F. Shoultz, and a copy <br />of this resolution be provided for posting aboard this proud vessel. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be made a <br />part of the permanent records of this city and that the City Clerk <br />be directed to forward certified copies to the Secretary of the Navy, <br />and to Vice Adm. Frederick H. Michaelis, Commander, Naval Air, <br />Atlantic, Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Virginia. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held on August 8, 1972. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
