41 RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR UNSELFISH BY THE COMMANDING OFFICER AND MEN OF THE ALLY DEPRESSED AREAS OF THE CITY. SERVICES AND AID PROVIDED USS FORRESTAL TO ECONOMIC- WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, and its Naval Shipyard have enjoyed over many years economic, social, and human- itarian ties, solidifying the unity of our citizens and the men of the U. S. Navy, and WHEREAS, it has been Portsmouth's good fortune on numerous occassions to receive gratuitous assistance from individual officers of our Navy, having duty ashore and afloat, particularly services of an economic or humanitarian character, and WHEREAS, Captain Robert F. Schoultz, commanding officer of the Carrier USS Forrestal and the men under his command have demon- strated particularly noteworthy and unusual interest in, and unself- ish dedication to, the economically depressed areas of our city, assisting them in various ways, and WHEREAS, this assistance has served physical and social needs of many of these citizens, particularly hundreds of children, through renovation of a recreation center, beach outings, harbor boat tours, and block parties, where food was furnished, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that appreciation be conveyed through this resolution to our benefactor, Capt. Robert F. Shoultz, and a copy of this resolution be provided for posting aboard this proud vessel. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be made a part of the permanent records of this city and that the City Clerk be directed to forward certified copies to the Secretary of the Navy, and to Vice Adm. Frederick H. Michaelis, Commander, Naval Air, Atlantic, Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Virginia. Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held on August 8, 1972.
