A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE <br />FUNDS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE HODGES FERRY BRIDGE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Hodges Ferry Bridge which traverses the <br />Western Branch of the Elizabeth River connecting the cities of <br />Chesapeake and Portsmouth is inadequate in its present condi- <br />tion to take care of current traffic loads; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Hodges Ferry Bridge is a vital transporta- <br />tion link to the citizens of Portsmouth in both their travels to' <br />Chesapeake and to the Churchland area of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the proposed extension of Tyre Neck Road from <br />Bruce Road to Portsmouth Boulevard will further encourage citi- <br />zens of Portsmouth and Chesapeake to use the Hodges Ferry Bridge; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, either the improvement or replacement of said <br />bridge would contribute greatly to the safety and convenience of <br />the citizens of Portsmouthi <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it requests that the State <br />Highway Department make available funds for the improvement or <br />replacement of the Hodges Ferry Bridge. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that if such bridge is to be reconstructed <br />that it be replaced with a modern high level span. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held July 25, 1972. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
