58 <br /> <br />A P~ESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE HIGS~AY DEPARTME~T TO INCLUDE <br />IN CO~STRUCTION DESIGNS FOR THE NEW W~EST NORFOL~ BRIDGE PEDES- <br />TRIA~ WALKWAYS. <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, the 1985 Major Thoroughfare Plan presently <br />allocates funds for the construction of a bridge at the West <br />Norfolk Crossing; and <br /> <br /> ~REAS, present construction design plans for such <br />bridge do not contain provisions for pedestrian walkways; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, the failure to include such pedestrian walk- <br />ways would work an economic hardship and inconvenience on.the <br />citizens of the West ~orfolk area; and <br /> <br /> ~fHEP~AS, it is the judgment of the Council of the <br />City of ortsmoutn, Virginia, that the best interests of the <br />citizens of Portsmouth would be better served by the inclusion <br />in the construction plans for the West ~rfolk Bridge of pedes- <br />trian walkways. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it requests that the State <br />Hiqhway Department incorporate in the design of the new West <br />Norfolk Bridge plans for-pedestrian walkways. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Portsmouth <br />shall pay 15% of any additional cost engendered by the inclu- <br />sion of pedestrian walkways. <br /> <br />Virginia, <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council of <br />at a meeting held October <br /> <br />the City of Portsmouth, <br />10, 1972. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
