RESOLUTION OF THE coUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORTS- MOUTH APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A REVISED COOPERAT%ON AGREEMENT WITH THE PORTSMOUTH REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY FOR THE OLDE ToWNE CONSERVATION PROTECT, VA. R-49 WHEREAS, under the provisions of Title I of the Housing Act of 1949 as amended, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development entered into a contract with the Ports~outh Redevelopment and Housing Authority on December Z3, 1968, to provide financial assistance to the Authority for undertaking urban rene~va~ activities %vith- in ~he Olde 'T0wne Conservation Project, Va. R-49, as specified in the document entitled, "Conservation Plan for the Olde To~vne Conservation Project, Va. R-49," ~vhich has been approved by both the AUthority and the City of Ports~nouth; and ~VHEREAS, the Authority has applied for addition{al financial assistance under said Act in order to complete said project and proposes to enter into an al~ended contract v~th the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the ~nder- taking of and for making available additional financial assistance for the project; and WHEREAS, a revised Cooperation Agreement f6r the said project has been pre- pared which adjusts the obligation of the City to accord v~th said a~:aendatory ap- plication, which revision has been carefully reviewed at this meeting; and %VHEREAS, the City Council is' cognizant of t~e conditions that are imposed in the undez~aking and~carrying out of urban rene~val.projects %vlth Federal financial as- sistance under Titl~ l, including %hose prohibiting discrimination because of race, color, breed, or national origin; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by'the Council of the City of Portsmouth: 1. That it is hereby found and determined that said additional financial aid to be provided pursuant to the contract for Federal financial assistance pertaining to the project is necessa~"y to enable the project to be completed in accordance v;ith the Conservation Plan for the Olde Towne Conservation Project, Va. R~49. Z. That additional financial assistance under the provisions of Title I of the Hous- ing Act o£ 1949, as air, ended, is necessary, and accordingly, the filing by the Authority of application fo~ ~6~ financial assistance under Title I is l~ereby ~pproved.
