A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CITY OF PORTS- <br />~OUTH IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO VIGOROUSLY SUPPORT DURING THE <br />1973 SESSION OF THE ASSEMBLY, SENATE BiLL 612 RELATING TO THE <br />EFFECTIVE DATE OF THE UNIFO~4 STATE WIDE BUILDING CODE AND A <br />GRACE PERIOD FOR CERTAIN LOCAL BUILDING CODES IF IT APPEARS THAT <br />NO LEGISLATIVE ALTERNATIVE WHICH WOULD ALLOW CONTINUED INDEF!- <br />N~T~ USE OF THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE IS AVAILABLE- <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 1~72 session of the General Assembly au- <br />thorized the adoptiOn of a state Widej~ui~ding code to become <br />effective no later than September I, I973, and <br /> WHEREAS, the presently proposed state wide building <br />code is different from the one in force and effect in the City <br />of Portsmouth; and <br /> WHEREAS, adoption of a completely different building <br /> code by September of this year would impose a great hardship on <br /> the City Government of Portsmouth; and <br /> WHEREAS, House Bill 612 proposes to ~end Section <br /> 36-101 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, in such a way as to allow <br /> a grace period of two years for localities who have codes dif- <br /> fering from the proposed state wide building code; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is the preference of the Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth that the Southern Standard Building Code be <br /> made an available alternative for localities by legislative <br /> me~ns. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the representatives of the <br /> City of Portsmouth in the General Assembly be, and are hereby <br /> requested to support Senate Bill 612 during the 1973 session <br /> of the General Assembly if it appears that no legislative al- <br /> ternative which would allow the continued indefinite use of the <br /> Southern .Standard Building.Code is available. <br /> Adopted by the counccil of the City of Portsmouth, <br /> Virqinia, at a meeting held January 23, 1973. <br /> Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
