A RESOLUTIOI4 STATING THE INTEREST OF T}{E COUNCIL OF THE CiTY <br />OF PORTSMOUTH IN A DEMONSTR~ATION PROJECT OF THE AUTO RAPID <br />TP~_NS I T SYSTEM. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ the Southeastern Virginia Planning Dis- <br />trict Commission has an opportunity to obtain funding for a <br />new transportation concept demonstration project called Auto <br />Rapid Transit that would be designed to complement and enhance <br />the public transit system; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ the project will not require any local <br />financing mn its demonstration period and any endorsem, ent <br />herein does not obligate any local government to continue <br />demonstration; and <br /> <br />such <br /> <br /> WHER~AS~ the implementation of the project, should <br />such implementation be hereafter approved, would be carried <br />out to ~ssure the coordination of transportation modes and <br />services and~ if proven successfu!~ could become a permanent <br />part of the public transportation system. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virgznia~ that the council hereby indicates <br />its interest in having the Auto Rapid Transit concept d~mon- <br />strated through a joint program of the Southeastern Virginia <br />Planning District Commission and the Tidewater Transportation <br />District Co~mission. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, at a meeting held October 22, 1974. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
