A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTITUTE A PROJECT TO CONSTRUCT AND REPAIR THE BRICK SIDE- WALKS IN THE OLDE TOWNE HISTORIC PRESERVATION DISTRICT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION OF THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF COMmeRCE. WHEREAS, The Economic Development Administration of the U. So Department of Commerce has made certain funds avail- able to support a Labor Intensive project in Olde Towne; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has recommended institution of the project within the city; and WHEREAS, it is the sense of the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that such a project would significant- ly contribute to the achievement of the Olde Towne project's goals; and WHEREAS, the Economic Development Administration requests assurances of completion of the project ~n a timely and satisfactory manner within the approved budget constraints; and WHEREAS, the amount of federal funds to be provided will be Two Hundred Thousand ($200,000.) Dollars cash, to be matched by the Qity of Portsmouth zn the amount of Fift~ Thousand ($50,OO0.) Dollars cash and Fifty Thousand ($50,000.) Dollars in-kind services. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia that the City Manager on behalf of the City of Portsmouth is directed and authorized to institute a project to construct and repair the brick sidewalks in Olde Towne Historic Preservation District in conounction with the Economic Development Administration of the U. S. Department of Commerce. The City Manager is further directed and authorized to convey assurances to the Econommc Development A~ministration of the City of Portsmouth's intention to complete the project in a timely and satisfactory manner within the approved budget. · Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held May 13, 1975.
