A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION TO <br />I~50VE THEIR PROCEDURES FOR DETERMINING ELIGIBILITY FOR PAY- <br />MENT OF HOSPITAL BILLS SO AS TO CAUSE A MORE TIMELY DETERMINATION <br />OF ELIGIBILITY FOR SUCH HOSPITAL CARE AND PAYMENT THEREFOR. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ referrals from hospitals located in the City <br />of Portsmouth to the Social Service Bureau of the City of Ports- <br />mouth to determine eligibility for financial assistance in pay- <br />ing hospital expenses take as long as sixty (60) to ninety (90) <br />days when the Social Security Administration must determine the <br />eligibility for such financial aid; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the patient is burdened by this lengthly <br />determination process; and <br /> <br />are being <br />of bills. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, hospitals located in the City of Portsmoutk <br />financially burdened because of such delay in paymLent <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Social Security Adminis- <br />tration is requested to do whatever ~s necessary to speed the <br />procedure for determining eligibility of those persons referred <br />to the Social Service Bureau of the City of Portsmouth for fin- <br />ancial assistance. <br /> <br /> The City Clerk is directed to forward copies of this <br />resolution to ¥~. Peter F. McCoy, Acting Regional Representative <br />of the Social Security Administration, Mr. L. D. Foust, Area <br />Director of the Social Security Administration, ~-. Charles Teets, <br />District Manager of the Social Security Administration and <br />Anna R.
