A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY ~NAGER OR CITY ATTORNEY <br />TO ADVISE VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY AND OTHER <br />SELLERS OF PUBLIC UTILITY SERVICES IN TEE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH <br />OF THE OPPOSITION OF COUNCIL TO THE PAYMENT OF A PEE FOR <br />THE COST OF ADMINISTERING THE CONSUMER UTILITY TA_X. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Virgmnia Electric and Power Company has <br />requested that the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Vir- <br />ginia, be amended to provide for a fee of three (3%) per- <br />cent of the total consumer utility tax collected to <br />cover the cost of administering the cons%u~er utility tax; <br />and <br /> <br /> ~'~EREAS, this fee would be paid in the form of <br />a deduction from the amounts so collected; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such three (3%) percent fee would be <br />paid not only to Virginia Electric and Power Company <br />but to every other seller of uti!itiy services which <br />administers the consu_mer utility tax for the City of <br />Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the revenues of the consumer utility tax <br />are a vital part of the resources required to support the <br />programs of the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the CQuncil <br />of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager <br />or City Attorney be, and h~ hereby is~ authorized to ex- <br />press to Virginia Electric and Power Company and to other <br />sellers of utility services in the City of Portsmouth the <br />opposition of Co~nci! to the payment of a fee for the cost <br />of administering the cons~mer utility tax. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held De~ember 16~ 1975o <br /> <br />T. este: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
