A RESOLUTION URGING THE CO~4At~DA_NT OF THE ~IARINE CORPS TO CON- <br />TINUE FULL SCALE OPERATION OF THE NAVAL SHIPYARD MARINE BARRACKS, <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ the Naval Shipyard Marine Barracks, Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, has become a part of the historic heritage of the City <br />having been constructed and continually occupied since 1906; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, closure of the Marine Barracks would result in <br />consolidation of the Naval Shipyard security command in Norfolk <br />and relocation of the Sea School; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the final stages of a rehabilitation program <br />for the Marine Barracks in excess of $800,000 are being completed. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Commandant of the Marine <br />Corps is hereby urged to continue the full scale operation of <br />the Naval Shipyard Marine Barracks, Portsmouth, Virginia. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be~ and <br />he hereby is, instructed to forward a copy of this resolution to <br />the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Commandant of the Fifth <br />Naval District. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of <br />ginia, at a meeting held April 13, 1976. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />Portsmouth, Vir- <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
