A'RESOLUTICIN URGING SEABOARD COASTLINE RAILROAD C(IMPANY, I~ORFOIJK~FllANKt.~N <br />AND DANV/LTR RAILkntY CC~PANY AND NORFOLK AND PO~RTSMOIYI~ BELT L/NE RAILROAD <br />TO THE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO CORRECT ~S CONDITIONS AT GRADE CROSSINGS; <br />INSTR~ THE CIT~ ATIORNEY TO TAKE WHATEVER ACTION IS AS~CESSARY TO <br /> <br /> WHEREAS. the City has repeatedly requested the railroads to maintain <br />street grade crossings in the City; and <br /> <br /> W~iFJtS, a survey conducted by the Public Works Department of the <br />City indicates that little or no action has been taken by the railroads <br />to main%ain grade crossings in the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, many con,plaints have been received frc~ citizens, civil <br />leagues and Virginia Dep~rtment of Highways concerning the existing <br />condition of grade crossings; and <br /> <br /> NOW, TtIEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the Seaboard Coastline P~ilroad Company, <br />Norfotk-F~anklin and Danville Railway Cc~npany and Norfolk and Portsmouth <br />Belt Line Railroad are hereby urged to take iranediate action to correct <br />hazardous conditions at existing grade crossings in the City. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Attorney be, and he hereby is, <br />instructed to take 'whatever action is necessary %o insure compliance <br />with the law. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a <br />meeting held April 12, 1977. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
