74 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH <br />ESTABLISH A CONSUMER ADVISORY CO~WLMISSION. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the mounting concern <br />in the area of consumer protection regarding the hQme improve- <br />ment industry; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council i's concerned that the p~blic <br />confidence is being undermined in those furnishing such services, <br />the majority of whom operate with integrity and sincere regard <br />for the consumer; and <br /> <br /> $%~EREAS, the Council concludes that the State should take <br />steps, both protective and preventive, to educate the consumer <br />about such practices, to assist the public in obtaining relief <br />from such practices and to prevent such practices from occurring. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED th~ the Mayor is requested <br />to establish a Consumer Advisory Concaission for a period of <br />one (1) year to monitor the 'effectiveness of the 'available <br />remedies to persons affected by unlawful, cons~uer practices <br />in the home improvecaent industry and to make recommendations, <br />if any, on the enactment of additional State legislation for <br />the protection of the consumer. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held 'September 23, 1980. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
