73 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE CITIES OF TIDEWATER ADOPT <br />RECIPI~OCAL ORDINANCES TO ALLOW TAXICABS LICENSED IN ANOTHER <br />CITY TO PICK UP PASSENGERS FOR RETURN TRIPS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Tidewater Transportation District Commission <br />has recommended that the cities of Tidewater permit properly <br />licensed cabs from other cities to pick up passengers for <br />return trips; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Virginia Beach, Virginia, has <br />recently adopted suchordinance and requested other Tidewater <br />cities to adopt a similar reciprocal ordinance; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth has on <br />this date adopted an ordinance amending the Code of the City <br />of Portsmouth so as to permit taxicabs licensed in another <br />city to pick up passengers in Portsmouth and deliver same <br />to the city wherein they are duly licensed provided equal <br />or greater rights and privileges to operate within the boundaries <br />of such other cities a~e granted to taxicabs licensed in <br />Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth that the adoption of similar ordinances by the other <br />cities of Tidewater would be in furtherance of regional co- <br />operation and result in improved taxicab service for the <br />entire Tidewater area to the mutual benefit of all concerned. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, requests that the governing <br />bodies of the cities of Tidewater adopt reciprocal ordinances <br />which allow taxicabs licensed in another city to pick up <br />passengers for return trips. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held September 29, 1981. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
