5 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE COUNCILS' CONCERNS REGARDING TEE <br />NORFOLK, FRANKLIN AND DANVILLE RAILWAY COMPANY'S REQUEST TO <br />CHANGE THE STATUS OF ITS OPEN AGENCY STATION AT WEST NORFOLK <br />TO A NONAGENCY, AND TO TRANSFER THE AGENCY SERVICE TO SUFFOLK, <br />VIRGINIA AND. TO RETIRE THE STATION BUILDING IN WEST NORFOLK. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on November 13, 1981, the Norfolk, Franklin- <br />and Danville Railway Company requested authority from the <br />State Corporation Commission to change the status of i~s <br />open agency station in West Norfolk to a nonagency; to <br />transfer the agency service from West Norfolk to Suffolk, <br />Virginia, and to retire the station building in West <br />NorFolk; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in accordance with the rules'of the State <br />Corporation Commission, a copy of the application has been <br />served upon the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City ~of Portsmouth, Virginia <br /> is not opposed to the agency service transfer as long.as <br />_there will be no reduction in service provided to Virqinia <br /> Chemicals, Inc. or any other industrial use existing or to <br /> be established in the West Norfolk area of Portsmouth and <br /> along the rail lines serving that area, and allowances will <br /> be made for increased train and administrative services should <br /> shippinq and receiving activities of'Virginia Chemicals, Inc. <br /> or any other existing or to'be.created industrial activity <br /> so warrant and that the Norfolk, Franklin ~nd Danville Railway <br /> Company or their successor in interest wilt respond to any <br /> additional transportation needs in a timely and efficient <br /> mab~ero <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth expresses its concerns as noted above <br /> to the agency service transfer and directs the City Attorney <br /> to take whatever steps deemed necessary in order to assure <br /> that the concerns of the City Council of the City of Portsmouth <br /> is brought to the attention of the State Corporation Commission. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held January 12, 1982. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
