16 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONCERN OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH <br />TO THE CLOSING OF THE SECOND SHIFT AT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY <br />NORFOLK ASSEMBLY PLANT. <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, there is located in the neighboring City of <br />Norfolk~ Virginia the Ford Motor Company Norfolk Assembly <br />Plant which employ many residents of the City of Portsmouth; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth has <br />learned that Ford Motor Company has closed its second <br />shift at unls plant; and <br /> <br /> ~v~R~A~ ~ e it is recognized that this ~ ~'~ <br /> ~a~m~y has been <br />one of the mos~ productive in the Ford Motet Company and has <br />exhibited a constant record of high quality work; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the closing of the second shift at said plant <br />has had a~ impact, not only on the employees of the plant <br />and the City of Norfolk, but on the economy of the entire <br />Tidewater area, including Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia expresses its concern to the <br />closing of the second Shift at the Ford Motor Company <br />Norfolk Assembly Plant and requests that the Ford Motor Company <br />take whatever steps are necessary to .return the plant to <br />full operation assuring all its employees t~e opportunity to <br />continue their high quality of work. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution <br />be forwarded to appropriate officials of the Ford ~otor <br />Company. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at its meeting held February 23, 1982. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
