A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE COUNCIL'S APPRECIATION TO ALLIED <br />REPAIR SERVICE, INC~ AND W. K. JOHNSON, PRESIDENT, TO THE <br />WELDER TRAINING PROGRAM AT THE S. H. CLARKE VOCATIONAL <br />TRAINING CENTER. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Office of Economic Development of the City <br />of Portsmouth and the Portsmouth Public Schools have worked <br />together to develop the concept of a skills center at S. H. <br />Clarke ~ocational Training Center; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such Center will provide job training and <br />placement assistance for economically disadvantaged residents <br />of the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, funding restraints have made iR necessary to <br />limit implementation of the Skill Center at this time to the <br />establishment of a Welding/Metal Trades Program and the re- <br />novation of a welding lab; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the cost of construction of said lab will be <br /> funded by funds provided under the Comprehensive Employment <br /> and Training Act and the Coramunity Development Program; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Allied Repair Service, InCo supported the <br /> proposed Welder Training Program by furnishing equipment as <br /> required for a minimum of ten (10) trainees, which value is <br /> estimated at approximately $10,575.00; and.. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, W. K. Johnson, President of Allied Repair <br /> Service, Inc., has also contributed his expertise to the <br /> development of a curriculum, has visited the school several <br /> times, and been of tremendous help in program development; <br /> and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, thi~ donation of equipment and expertise will <br /> greatly enhance the success of the program and reflects a <br /> spirit of community pride and involvement which deserves <br /> recognition. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED bhat the Council of the <br /> City of Portsmouth, Virginia expresses its gratitude to <br /> Allied Repair Service, Inc. and its President, W. K. Johnson, <br /> for the donation of equipment and expertise toward the <br /> development of the Welder Training Program at the S. H. <br /> Clarke Vocational Training Center. <br /> <br /> <br />
