7O A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING CONCERN OP THE COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF PORTSMOUTH AT THE SCHEDULED CLOSING OP Tiz[O ABC STORES IN PORTSMOUTH. WHEREAS~ the State Alcoholic Beverage Control Co~mission has announced the closing of two (2) stores in Portsmouth located at 521 Middle Street and 1422 High Street~ and WHEREAS, residents, businesses and property owners in the areas of the City affected by the proposed closing have expressed their interest in having such facility continue to be located in their area~ and par%icularly in the downtown shopping district of hhe City; and WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth through its waterfront development and down~own business district promotion will attract ~dditiona! residents; visitors and co-~s~ercia~ activities to the area and will create a broa~er economis base to support the continued operation of such ABC stores~ and WHlCREA8~ alternative approaches may be available to assure the continual provis~on of these services to the citizens in this area of the City.such as consolidation of locations and/or reducing or reschednling hours of operation and staffing~ NOW, T~EREPORE~ BE iT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, ~irginia~ that the City Conneil hereby expresses i~s concern at the scheduled closings of two (2) ABC steres mn the city of Por%smouth~ BE !T Portsmouth to examine ?URTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of urges the Alcoholic Beverage Control Co~IAmission alternatives to these c!osings~ BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be~ and see hereby is, authorized ho forward a copy of this resolution to the Chairman of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Com~ission~ Senator Wiiiard J~ Moody~ Delegate L~ Cleaves Mannin9 and Delegate John S.
