57 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE SOMERTON CREEK <br /> AND ASSAMOOSICK SWAMP POTABLE WATER SUPPLY PROJECT SUBJECT <br />TO FINAL REVIEWOF PROPOSALS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL <br />IMPACT S~JDIES AND APPROVAL OF THE COST TO THE CITY OF PORTS- <br />-MOUTH THEREOF~ <br /> <br /> WHER~S, the Southeastern Public Service Authority of <br />Virginia bas prepared a report for a proposed source of <br />surface water supply for Southeabtern Virginia entitled, <br />"Somerton Creek and Assamoosick Swamp Preliminary Engineering <br />Report", dated February, 1982; and <br /> <br /> WHER~AS, the findings of said report indicate that the <br />proposed Assamoosick Swamp resevoir related facilities will <br />produce approximately sixty-five million (65,000,000) gallons <br />per day of potable surface water; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, thi~ ~uantity of water, if developed, will meet <br />Southeastern Virginia's water supply needs well into the <br />Twenty-first Century at a cost below that of new surface water <br />supply alternatives; auld- <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it w~!! b~ necessary to select a contractor to <br />develop the necess~y en~ironmental impact reports for such <br />project and to determine the share of the cost thereof to be <br />paid by the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the C~uncil of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it does hereby support and endorse <br />~he Somerton Creek and Assamoosick Swamp potable water supply <br />project subject to final review of proposals for development <br />of environmental impact reports and approval of the cost to the <br />City of Portsmouth thereof. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held June 22, 1982. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
