56 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO FILE AN <br />APPLICATION WITH THE UNITED STATES DEPART~--~KNT OF EDUCATION <br />FOR A GRANT TO OPERATE A THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAM, <br />INCLUDING ALL ASSURANCES CONTAINED THEREIN AND DIRECTING T~E <br />CITY MANAGER TO ACT IN CONNECTION WITH THE APPLICATION TO <br />PROVIDE SUCH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AS MAY BE REQUIRED. <br /> <br /> ' W~_EREAS, this grant to operate a therapeutic recr.eation <br />program %~iI1 provide funds for development of a comprehensive <br />program to include hiring of professional therapeutic staff, <br />upgrading an expansion of recreational, programs, and establishing <br />ordination with public and private agencies to coordinate <br />services for disabled citizens; and <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, this t}~e of specialized program has been <br />identified by the Mayor's Committee for the Handicapped as <br />a program which would be beneficial to the citizens of the <br />City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, approval of this grant, would assist in <br />re-establishing such programs which.have previously been <br />reduced as a result of the cut backs in CETA and other federal <br />programs. <br /> <br /> NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, and he <br />hereby is, authorize~ to file an application with the United <br />States Department of Education for a grant to operate a <br />therapeutic recreation program, including all assurances <br />contained therein, and further directing the City Manager to <br />act in connection with said application to provide such <br />additionak information as may be required. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />at a meeting held June 22, 1982. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
